Jones was the first pick selection made by New England after penalties levied by the league forfeited the 29th pick in the first round.
“Jones is a starting nickel corner with added value in the return game,” sad Mike Mayock of NFL Network. “Atypical of corners, he has great ball skills. He is a well-coached, technique-sound player.”
The 5-foot-10 Jones, won a national championship under Nick Saban in 2012.
He had seven career interceptions and in 2014 led the SEC with 13 pass defends. Jones also returned four punts as a senior.
